We are proud of our babies and are firm believers in abundant weaning.  The babies are given a variety of friuts and veggies as well as introduced to several pelleted diets that are widely available.  We use Pretty Bird, ZuPreem, Roudy Bush and Kaytee Pellet as well as a Vitamin fortified Seed and Veggie mix that are all available at most pet stores.  We feel that when the baby leaves us it will have been introduced to a large variety of foods and that will make it an easy transition to its new home.  We always recommend feeding 1/3 of pelleted diet, 1/3 vitamin fortified seed mix and 1/3 of the diet fruits and veggies.  This gives the baby a good diverse menu that is healthy for the baby.

Our babies are allowed to fly before the wings are clipped to give them confidence and this also helps to control weight loss during the weaning process.

During the weaning process the babies are placed in their own cages with plenty of foods to choose from to encourage eating.  The babies are given low perches to learn to perch and plenty of toys and cuddle buddies for company.  All babies are handled daily and socialized with our family and exposed to the household daily routine.

Our work is never done....

Abundance Weaning
  • We place the baby in its own cage with plenty of toys and cuddle buddies when brooding is complete.
  • We then provide an abundance of different foods at all times for the weaning baby.
  • The baby is allowed to fledge during the weaning process and the wings are not trimmed until this occurs.
  • We promote a calm safe environment for the baby to learn to eat foods and never force the baby to wean on a strict schedule.
  • We interact with the baby in a nurturing manner to create a more emotionally secure chick.
  • When abundantly weaned with nurturing techniques the baby is clearly more secure and contented and have much greater pet potential than babies forced to wean with deprivation.
